We Can’t Eat Anymore Internet Explorer 6!

Eat It Now Bins Internet Explorer 6It’s official. As of Friday 19th March 2010 we are no longer supporting Internet Explorer 6 on Eat It Now!

After much deliberation, statistical analysis and debate, dropping Internet Explorer 6 support will free up our development teams time to focus on the future and not the past. No more hours spent debugging random CSS glitches. No more hacks for rounded corner table support and transparent PNGs. Internet Explorer 6 is officially dead to us!

We apologise to the handful of users that are still forced to use this archaic, standards hating browser, but we hope our gentle nudge to upgrade (or get a more up to date browser, like the brilliant Firefox 3.6) will enrich not only our site, but your browsing experience in general. We have had many discussions about IE6 users and their blinkered view of the World Wide Web… trust us when we say it’s a vibrant and beautiful place without a browser thats pushing  on for 10 years old!

Internet content has come a long way in the last 10 years too. With the announcement of Internet Explorer 9s support of CSS3 and other goodies, we are hoping to further improve our website through the use of modern technology, not spending our time supporting the past.

Whilst you might not be interested in the details, please be assured our site will be even easier to use and a more interactive experience in the near future.

Watch this space for exciting updates!

I note that you have dropped support for IE v6 and you have just started business on the Isle of Man; you may not know that a large percentage of the Islands workforce are employed by Government and 90% of Government computers still use IE V6 and will never move on to Firefox.

We may move from XP to Windows 7 over the next 2 years until that time “quill pens” will remain in use.

Good luck with the new venture on the island.
